Trauma: The Silent Scream

A podcast series centred around the journey of healing after trauma.

Hosted by The Space Between Us clinical psychologists Linda Mthenjane and Gugu Gigaba with occasional guests, we explore the hidden layers of the trans-generational trauma that so many of us carry. What does trauma look like in everyday life? How does it manifest? And how do we find healing? These are just some of the answers you can find in this series. A psychological balm for your hidden wounds, this is a safe, clinically-led space where you can unscramble your thoughts, emotions, reactions and responses, and piece together a different narrative that releases you from the past.

We may talk about trauma as a concept, but for many, it is a lived reality. With both historical and recurring trauma as yet unresolved, South Africans have many wounds to heal.

It was during the July 2021 Riots that we saw how deep these psychological wounds are in our young people. And so, TSBU clinical psychologists Linda Mthenjane and Gugu Gigaba started the bigger conversation in the dedicated podcast series: Trauma: The Silent Scream.

In the first episode, they talk us through what trauma is, where it is rooted, and how it manifests. In the second episode, Linda and Gugu are joined by clinical neuropsychologist Dr Shona Fraser. Together, they explore what emotional trauma does to the brain, how trauma shapes our daily realities, how it affects our bodies, and what we can do ourselves to start healing.

As you listen to these podcasts during Youth Month, we invite you to keep the conversation going.
For many young professionals in South Africa, our political history is so much more than a ghost of the past: it is a wound unhealed. And we saw so many of those wounds burst open in the desperate expression that became known as the July 2021 Riots. And so, TSBU clinical psychologists Linda Mthenjane and Gugu Gigaba felt compelled to start the bigger conversation in their dedicated podcast: Trauma: The Silent Scream. In this first episode, Linda and Gugu start defining what trauma really is, how it manifests in our everyday lives, and how we can start the healing process.
